When I went down to Atlanta to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Braves last year on Labor Day, I was incredibly impressed with the development around their beautiful new ballpark. I have definitely been jogging my memory as I sit here on the couch watching the Jays and Braves play tonight. (It’s 1-0 Jays at this point, but we will see if they can hold off what is a damn good Braves team) In any case, there is a great variety of restaurants and bars just outside the stadium, including a mini-diamond and a huge screen where you can actually watch the game just outside of the ballpark gates. There is also a great variety of stores, including the first chance I had to visit a Baseballism store.
If you haven’t heard of them, they are a small chain of retail stores dedicated to the love of baseball. What caught my eye walking by was a collection they had done in conjunction with the movie Major League, which may very well be the best baseball movie ever. Needless to say I walked out with a couple of shirts, a pair of shorts and a pair of Jobu socks. If you are ever in an area where they have a location and you are any type of baseball fan I would definitely recommend checking them out.
However, even if you can’t get to one of their stores, I would check out their website – baseballism.com – to check out all they have to offer. Aside from the Major League merchandise, I am torn between my Chicago themed Holy Cow shirt, and a basic shirt with the saying – “You don’t need a glove to stop a ball, just your body and some guts”. During the pandemic they have definitely expanded their offering, including selling on-line what were store exclusive items based on their various locations. I think I’m up to about six shirts at this point, and I did pick up a few face masks as well.
Now, I get regular emails from them, and their latest offering may just be the best yet. They are offering baseball themed swim trunks and board shorts. I am definitely set for shorts (thank you Stitch Fix), but I don’t think I will be able to resist adding a couple more pairs to my collection. I have included pics of a couple examples, but definitely hit their website to check out the options. I do love the Major League themed pair, but there are other strong contenders including a Hercules (the mastiff from the Sandlot) themed pair, and what may be my absolute favorite called Lawnmower Guy.

If nothing else you can definitely rock a unique look at the pool or beach this summer (in the limited capacity we are allowed). You can thank me later.
