Seriously, why is the act of wearing a face mask at this time even a topic of debate. The science is clear – wearing a mask provides a moderate amount of protection for yourself, and a large amount of protection for those around us. It’s that clear and simple, if we wear masks when we can’t socially distance, then we can dramatically slow down the spread of this virus.
Sure they are inconvenient and somewhat uncomfortable, but that is such a small price to pay so that we can begin to get back to some semblance of normalcy. We all want businesses and restaurants back open in some way shape or form. The easiest and best way to get there is to wear a damn mask.
How is this even a debate about personal freedom – yes as always, you do have the freedom to be an asshole, but why don’t you take a break from that right now. Freedom is not the unequivocal right to do whatever you want, whenever you want. We accept limitations of all forms for the good of our society, and wearing a little face mask is certainly a pretty small sacrifice to make for the well being of our communities.
Let’s take all of this energy we are wasting, and actually use it to come together and do some good. I don’t care what your political affiliations are, it has nothing to do with the issue at hand. I have no idea when science became something to distrust and sneer at, but you may want to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror if you somehow need to validate your pathetic ego by deriding things you don’t want to take the time to understand or which may run afoul of something you want to believe.
Let’s be better than this. An event like this pandemic should bring us together not simply become fodder for the ever increasing toxic political landscape that grips this country. Let’s read and educate ourselves so that we can make smarter decisions, and be good citizens, community members and general overall people. For once, let’s not make this about ourselves and our distrust for the “other side”.
