So after 19 months at home from a work perspective, I finally took my first work trip in what felt like forever. It was just a quick overnight trip up to Richmond, VA last week, but I can’t say that it wasn’t nice getting out of the house. The dogs were happy when I got back the next night, but I think even they were kind of glad to see me go away for a little bit. (In fairness, they get away with a whole lot more when I’m gone, especially when it comes to sleeping in the bed).

I have only been to Richmond a couple of times over the years, but it definitely seems like a nice city, and my team member lined up a couple of good lunches while I was there. First day was some great Nashville hot chicken at a place called Hot Chick! A Fried Chicken Story in downtown Richmond. I went with the quarter chicken in their Nashville hot sauce and it was absolutely fantastic. I’m usually not a huge waffle fry fan, but the seasoning they added to the fries was so good. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

Second lunch was over in Petersburg, VA as we returned from our meeting and for that we hit up Saucy’s Sit-Down Bar B Q. Another great little spot, that welcomed you in with that beautiful smell of smoking meat. Since it was lunch, I went light, with the smoked sausage dog, but it was so good. I was eyeballing the peanut butter pie, but that would have just led to a mid-afternoon nap. Plus, if you really want to go all in you can grab lunch/dinner at Saucy’s and then head around the corner to the Buttermilk Bake Shop for some awesome baked goods.

It was a nice short trip to help get back into the flow of work travel again. It was fun searching the house for all of my spare charge cords and travel paraphernalia, and there is definitely a cadence to work travel that I need to get reacquainted with, but it was definitely good to get back to it.
Hope you have been having fun and exciting adventures
